Other News

June 2012 by Michael Karagosian

  • Dolby inaugurated its newly branded Dolby Theatre in Hollywood (formerly Kodak Theatre), with honors given to Ray Dolby, and a presentation of its new sound system, Atmos. Pixar’s Brave and Dolby Atmos also premiered in the theatre the following week. No doubt the company can’t wait for the Oscars to take place.
  • Dolby also gave private demonstrations of its auto-stereoscopic 3-D display. Most interesting is its business model, in which the company has partnered with Philips, and is seeking other participants in the effort to build a competitive market with 3-D content delivery and competitive auto-stereoscopic displays.
