- Christie Digital demonstrated a 63,000 lumen laser-illuminated projector at IBC, allowing them to screen the movie Hugo in 3-D at 14 ft-L. The screen was a Harkness screen, 21.3M wide, with a gain of 1.0. Those who got close enough to view the projector report that the laser power assembly was the size of a VW bus.
- Laser Light Engines raised $9M in venture capital, and anticipates another $6M from new investors, totaling $15M in new funding to the company as it continues to work on laser illumination solutions for digital cinema.
- Digital Domain, the special effects company founded by Jim Cameron, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Digital Domain acquired the assets of 2-D to 3-D conversion company In-Three in 2010. Digital Domain has operations in Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Port St. Lucie. The city of Port St. Lucie issued just under $40M in bonds to build the Florida studio.
