- The US, among other Western countries, refused to sign the ITU’s Regulation for regulating the Internet. However, 89 out of 144 eligible countries did sign. Some view a possible outcome of disparate networks around the globe. Some think this is an unlikely outcome, given that economic forces are behind the Internet we know. However this evolves, the battle is not over. The next major ITU summit will take place in Korea in 2014.
