- Dalian Wanda, a real estate group headed by the Wang Jianlin, China’s sixthwealthiest man, purchased US-based AMC Entertainment for $2.6B, with the intent to pump in another $500M for renovations, and plans to pay down another $2B in debt. Wanda is the first international player to purchase a major US cinema chain.
- Cinedigm closed a content library licensing deal with high-end home cinema provider Prima Cinema. Prima systems cost $35,000, for which owners can obtain first release movies at $500 a pop. Prima does not advertise that it is DCI Compliant.
- Cinepolis, the world’s fourth-largest circuit, with plans to expand in South America and India, announced plans to convert all 2400 screens to digital projection by 2013. It is currently 60% converted.
